Quitie Supporters
It can be quite confidently stated, without fear of contradiction, that St Combs are the best supported team in the league. Renowned for their vociferous support of the team and well balanced views on the game, Quitie supporters can be regularly heard discussing the very sporting behaviour of the opposition and debating the excellent match performance of the referee. (The club secretary actually has a collection of letters from the league committee commenting on the supporter’s behaviour.)
Football supporters around the world have defining characteristics or movements for which they are famous. Brazil has the drums and dancing to the samba beat, South Africa has its Vuvuzelas and Anfield has the famous scarves in the air singing “You’ll never walk alone.”
Observers of the St Combs supporters are likely to see a group of hardy souls, with hands in pockets, shoulders hunched up, all stepping in unison from foot to foot and commenting that “it’s b****y freezing the day.”
The bond between players and supporters is exemplified by the not unusual goal celebration where the player will run along the touchline and “high five” all the supporters as he returns to his position for the game to restart. (It is acknowledged that such a goal celebration- that is, making bodily contact with all the supporters present - would present a somewhat greater logistical challenge for players at Pittodrie or Old Trafford.)
